SEO Practices

Like I have stated before in the Find-Abilty blog Search Engine Optimization refers to a series of techniques or practices used to improve traffic to your website from search engines.

Here’s a quick list of SEO practices that you should use:

  • Use semantic markup - avoid the use of deprecated HTML tags
  • Use search engine friendly urls - EX. http://mysite.com/place
  • Use <strong> and <em> tags to emphasize keywords
  • Have a large keyword density
  • Use social networking sites like Facebook or Flickr to promote yourself
  • Have a sitemap - a page that links all of your pages
  • Separate content, presentation, and behavior - Load in your CSS, JavaScript and XML (if necessary) externally.
  • Have a robots.txt file on your server - a simple file that can hide dangerous information from robots but can crawl through the other pages
